Samsung Galaxy Users Get โ€œUndo Backupโ€ Feature in Google Photos

by | Mar 14, 2025 | News, Samsung Apps

Many Samsung Galaxy users rely on Google Photos for cloud storage. Now, they have the option to enjoy more control over their backups. A new feature from Google called โ€œUndo Backupโ€ is finally available on Android devices. This feature arrived on iPhones at the end of last year.

Google Photos for Android gets an โ€œundo backupโ€ option

Google has recently announced the availability of the โ€œUndo backupโ€ feature within Google Photos for Android devices. On the support page, the company explains, โ€œYou can now remove all of the photos and videos that are currently found on your device in Google Photosโ€”without also deleting those photos and videos off of your deviceโ€”with โ€˜Undo device backup.โ€™โ€

With this feature, Samsung Galaxy users can conveniently manage their photo and video backups without much hassle to the local storage. Using the Undo Backup option lets you delete photos only from the appโ€™s server. The media stored locally on your device remains unaffected. This frees up your Google Photos cloud storage space without erasing photos from your deviceโ€™s internal storage. You donโ€™t have to worry about important memories disappearing entirely from the device.

It is worth noting that once you delete a photo from Google Photos, it will also disappear from shared albums, memories, and any other subdivisions you may have created in the app. Photos and videos from the locked folder will also be deleted.

How to use โ€œUndo Backupโ€ on a Samsung device

  • Open the Google Photos app on your Samsung device
  • Tap on your profile picture
  • Youโ€™ll find an option called โ€œPhotos Settingsโ€
  • Tap on โ€œBackupโ€ settings
  • Now, tap on โ€œUndo backup for this deviceโ€
  • Confirm the check box

After you select the Delete Google Photos Backup option, the app will not store the deleted photos. Local Backup will automatically turn off. As a result, storage space on the cloud is saved, and if you donโ€™t want to back up some photos, you can still store them locally.
