You have very limited options when joining a group chat on Google Messages. However, itโs good to see how Google Messages is catching up, making the messaging experience much simpler and more seamless. Unlike the current setup, where you need to manually add contacts to a group chat on Google Messages, Google may be planning an easier approach.
Google Messages will let you join group chats using link
Our friends at Android Authority dug into the Google Messages beta (messages.android_20250311_01_RC00.phone.openbeta_dynamic) and spotted evidence of a feature allowing users to join groups via a link. AssembleDebug discovered that the new beta version includes a โJoin Via Link Activity.โ However, as he notes, itโs not functional right now.
If implemented, this change would bring Google Messages more in line with popular messaging apps such as WhatsApp and Telegram, which already allow users to join group chats via links. This would be a significant improvement, making it easier for people to connect without the hassle of manually adding participants.
If and when this feature arrives, it would be a step in the right direction. Google Messages has recently introduced a bunch of new features, many of which are already live in the app. These findings suggest that Google may eventually add this functionality to the Messages app.
That said, developments in the beta app donโt necessarily guarantee that the feature will make it to the stable version. What they typically indicate is that Google is considering the change. However, since this is a relatively minor update, thereโs a strong chance it will make it to the final app. The specific release timeline, however, remains under wraps.
And now that Samsung Messages also supports RCS, which one do you prefer? Does Google Messages feel more like home to you, or do you stick with Samsung Messages?
