While Samsung’s One UI 7.0 update looks delayed indefinitely, the company is on time with its monthly security patches. It appears to have opened floodgates to the February security update. Shortly after rolling out the new SMR (Security Maintenance Release) to the Galaxy S24 and S23 series, the update reached the Galaxy S22 lineup. More devices should join the party soon.
Galaxy S22 series joins Samsung’s February update party
Almost mid-way through February 2025, Samsung is yet to begin the stable One UI 7.0 rollout. Per its usual schedule, the update should have arrived sometime in October or November last year. The company is months behind schedule and still hasn’t confirmed when the rollout begins. In fact, rumors suggest the Galaxy S24 series will receive one more beta update before the stable build arrives.
Meanwhile, Samsung has started pushing the February security patch to eligible models. The Galaxy S24 and S23 lineups received this update a few hours ago, and the Galaxy S22, S22+, and S22 Ultra followed suit. The 2022 flagship lineup is picking up the latest security update in Europe with the firmware build number S90*BXXSDEYA1. A global rollout should begin soon.
As you might expect, this update is all about security fixes. Samsung isn’t rolling out any new features or enhancements. The Galaxy S22 trio will not receive new feature updates before One UI 7.0. These devices are also eligible for One UI 8 — hopefully, the next version will arrive sooner.
As far as the security fixes are concerned, the February SMR patches over 40 vulnerabilities. Most of those are Android OS patches coming from Google. Samsung will soon roll out these fixes to the Galaxy S24, S23, and S22 phones globally. It will also gradually push these fixes to other eligible models, like the Galaxy S25 series and recent foldables. We will keep you posted.
