Many of us grew up using Ctrl + Z to undo mistakes. But what if it wasn’t actually a mistake? In that case, you might have used Ctrl + Y to redo it — assuming you’re familiar with Windows, of course. These basic features are incredibly useful, especially since most of us now do the majority of our typing on our phones. That’s why Gboard is testing Undo and Redo buttons, which will soon be available to all users.
Gboard is testing Undo and Redo buttons for Galaxy and more devices
According to 9to5Google, the Undo and Redo buttons on Gboard have been in the works since July 2023. A recent report from the publication reveals that these features are now part of the Gboard beta for Android version 14.9.06.x. The Undo and Redo options appear as shortcuts in the top strip of the Gboard keyboard and can also be moved to the suggestions tab for easier access.
Folks over at 9to5Google shared a few interesting tidbits. During the initial trials, the Undo feature works even after closing and reopening the keyboard, as long as the app remains active. However, exiting the app resets this functionality. When there are no actions to undo, tapping the Undo button will show faded Undo/Redo options. You can take a sneak peek of the feature in the clip shared by 9to5Google.
At this stage, the Undo and Redo features are still in development and are only available to a limited group of beta testers through the Google Play Beta program. It’s important to note that not all beta features make it to the stable release. However, the fact that these options are already in use by beta testers suggests a wider rollout could be on the cards. Which means the wait might be just worth it.
