Samsung may be scaling back its foldable shipments in 2025, but that doesn’t mean the company is giving up on innovation. Despite the lower shipments, Samsung could still be planning to release over four foldables this year globally. These include the Galaxy Z Fold 7, Flip 7, Flip FE, and a tri-fold smartphone. Of course, the Galaxy tri-fold is the most exciting project in the works. While we’ve learned a thing or two about Samsung’s tri-foldable, Samsung Display showed off some tri-foldable concepts.
Samsung Display flaunts tri-fold concepts at Consumer Electronics Show 2025
At CES 2025 in Las Vegas, Samsung Display pulled back the curtain on tri-fold concept displays. It unveiled three concepts: the IT Foldable, Slidable Flex Duet, and Slidable Flex Vertical. Except for IT Foldable, we might expect either of the rest two to be coming on the upcoming Galaxy tri-fold. CNET shared the images, and we’ll embed them right below so you can check them out. We’ll also drop the videos from Samsung Display below the story, so you can see these concepts in action.
The Slidable Flex Duet is a tablet display concept that expands from 8.1 inches to 12.4 inches, giving you a nice boost in screen size. The Slidable Flex Vertical is a smartphone display that stretches from 5.1 inches to 6.7 inches, much like the Galaxy Z Flip. And then there’s the IT Foldable, which is a foldable laptop display measuring a whopping 18.1 inches.
While patents floating around suggested an outward-folding Z-style design, some industry chatter pointed to an inward-folding U-style handset. In fact, reports from South Korea are speculating that Samsung could produce fewer than 300,000 units. This is way less than the expected shipments for the Galaxy Z Fold and Flip 7. That lower production number means one thing: a heftier price tag. Honestly, that shouldn’t be shocking, the Huawei Mate XT comes at CNY 19,999 (roughly $2,700).
At this point, it’s still up in the air whether the Galaxy tri-fold will make its debut in 2025 or if Samsung is eyeing a 2026 release. But no matter what happens, we’re just as excited as you to hear any news about the Galaxy tri-fold.
