Samsungโs new phones became official yesterday, after months of wait and a whirlwind of rumors coming from left and right. The first Galaxy Unpacked was all sorts of fun for tech circles, where Samsung pulled the wraps off the Galaxy S25 series, and threw in some interesting tidbits to Galaxy AI and One UI 7.0.
We were told that the Galaxy Unpacked will be full of surprises and let me tell you, it indeed was. Samsung briefly teased โProject Moohanโ Android XR and Galaxy S25 Edge. We were guessing the latter to come as the Galaxy S25 Slim, but Samsung proved us wrong by reviving the legendary Edge branding.
Samsung teased the Galaxy Tri-Fold during the Unpacked, too
Luckily, there was something only some of us might have guessed, which Samsung didnโt heavily emphasize. Except for Jay Kim, head of customer experience, who mentioned โmultifold.โ After that, we also saw a glimpse of a tri-fold device positioned between the regular fold and Android XR. Yep, Samsungโs ambitious Galaxy Tri-Fold was indeed the hidden gem of the Unpacked.
Samsung Display showcased some tri-fold prototypes at CES 2025, giving us a better idea of what to expect. However, whether Samsung will use an inward-folding or outward-folding screen for its tri-fold remains uncertain. Previous reports suggest that the Samsung tri-fold might be a limited edition with such low production numbers. Itโs significantly lower than the Galaxy Z Fold 7โs 2 million units.
Regarding the Samsung tri-fold, rumors point to a 9.9- to 10-inch screen when unfolded. Sources from Korea indicate that Samsung will begin component production for the Galaxy tri-fold sometime in the second quarter of 2025. This means we can expect the Samsung tri-fold to be released alongside the Galaxy Z lineup in the third quarter, if everything goes as planned.
